The objects of the research are lyrics in the Owl Ci ty’s album entitled Ocean Eyes and Maybe I’m Dreaming which consist of 19 songs. This research uses pragmatics approach to find out the illocutionary act. The research aims to identify the types of figurative language and illocutionary act in the lyric of Owl City’s Albums. The study belongs to descriptive qualitative research. Based on the previous studies, the researcher of this study is going to investigate other song lyrics from other song’s writers since it has probability to find other examples of figurative languages used, particularly from outstanding song lyrics. The contextual meanings of figurative language used in the songs are actually the stories about the woman’s love to her spouse. The existing kinds of figurative language found by the researcher were personification, hyperbole, euphemism, metonymy, metaphor, synecdoche, litotes, allegory, and symbol. Meanwhile, Putri (2012) conducted a research entitled An Analysis on The Figurative Language in Adele’s Song Lyrics of “21” Album. The researcher found that there were several kinds of figurative languages used in the song lyrics, such as seven hyperboles, two similes, three personifications, two metaphors, and one symbol. Pradana (2014) conducted a research entitled The Figurative Language Found in Barry Manilow’s Album “Even Now”. There are some of related studies to this study. If the related study analyzed about figurative language in Anggun and Westlife songs, the researcher will analyze about the types of figurative language and also the meaning conveyed in One Direction’s song lyrics. Meanwhile, the researcher will conduct a research that is not really different from the related study, but there are some differences in data, variable, and method. The writer found that the most figurative language which used in lyrics of Westlife’s selected songs is “Hyperbole” that has a great exaggeration used to emphasize a point, and is used for expressive or comic effect. He conducted a research about “An Analysis of Figurative Language on the Lyrics of Westlife’s Selected Song”. The result of this study found that there are three types of metaphor used and the moral messages within the songs. She conducted a research about “Metaphorical Expression in Anggun’s Song in Album of Snow in Sahara”.
